November 1912 - September 1974

Rosters for units serving in World War II from 1944 - 1946 were destroyed in accordance with Army disposition authorities.

Morning reports for Army units dated 1960 - September 1974 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) in St. Louis. To order these records, please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002.

The semi-annual rosters (i.e., April and October) for 1960-74 for Army units are attached to the morning reports of the respective units. All rosters for the period are not available and usually list only enlisted personnel. Paper copies may be obtained from microfilm by writing to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002. Research and reproduction fees are charged for this service. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 to request this information.

October 1974 - November 1990

In October 1974, the Army Standard Installation Division Personnel System (SIDPERS) included Personnel Data Cards (PDC) that replaced Morning Reports and Zero Strength Balance Reports (ZSBR) that replaced rosters. A SIDPERS contains information on the service member during the entire period of time assigned to an organization, regardless of length of time. It also includes information about TDY, AWOL, DEF, gains, losses, promotions, reductions. SIDPERS was discontinued on November 21, 1990. For a copy of a SIDPERS record, please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center (NPRC), Military Personnel Records, 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002.

1798 - June 1939

1939 - 1983

1984 to Present

Navy personnel diaries (also known as muster rolls) after 1983 are in the custody of the Navy Personnel Command (PERS-00J6), 5720 Integrity Drive, Millington, TN 38055. These provide a listing of anyone who reported on-board each day, anyone who left, anyone who did not report, and anyone who reenlisted. They also include copies of the Officer Distribution Control Report (ODCR) and the Enlisted Distribution Verification Report (EDVR). Individuals are listed by name, rank/rate and social security number. Muster rolls/Personnel Diaries from 1984 onward utilize social security numbers as service numbers and are subject to privacy restrictions. Marine Corps

Air Force

Morning reports for Army Air Force units (from November 1, 1912 to August 1947) and Air Force units (from September 1947 to June 30, 1966) are in the custody of the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL). For more information about these records, please contact RL-SL via email at stl.archives@nara.gov .

The U.S. Air Force discontinued the Morning Report (AF Form 183) on June 30, 1966. It was replaced by a machine reporting system, the Military Strength Balance Report (AFHRA Call Number K381.24, Jan-Jun 1966, IRIS Number 498836). Additionally, another report, Average Strength Data Report, Reports Control Symbol (RCS) AF-P185 was also required. Neither report has been accessioned into the custody of the National Archives. Please contact the Air Force Historical Research Agency for access to these reports.
