Forgot to assign letter of rec before submitting application

Post by Amazon1994 » Wed Oct 25, 2017 1:07 pm

After completing my first application, I submitted it before assigning my letters of recommendation (both were received, just not necessarily assigned). I realized my mistake and corrected it a few days later but it looks like the CAS report had already been sent. Has anyone else experienced this/have a remedy to this situation? Is it simply a matter of the school seeing that you haven't assigned the letters and requesting the report a second time?

Thanks in advance for any input.

LSAC should just automatically send them the additional letter, no? You should be able to check your report status for each school. That should give you the answer.

I called LSAC about this exact situation because I wanted to submit my applications asap and didn't want to wait on any of my recommenders. I spoke with more than one person, and they all said that the CAS report and the LORs are sent separately, meaning you can submit your report and assign later without a worry. Once assigned, LORs are sent out automatically, no matter when the CAS report went out or when the LORs were assigned. They also claimed that it is very common for applicants to submit applications and for CAS reports to go out before LORs are received, and that this does not hurt an applicant's chances.

I hope they are right!

That helps a lot. I figured it wouldn't be too big of a deal regardless but I wanted to resend my CAS report ASAP if that's what needed to happen. if it is what you say it is I'll just assume it's not a problem until someone tells me otherwise.
